March 13, 1958, Greencastle, Ind. - The Right Honorable Harold Macmillan, prime minister of Great Britain, will provide the keynote address at 富二代视频app University's 119th commencement exercises on Sunday, June 8. The University will confer an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on the prime minister preceding his address to approximately 390 graduating seniors at Blackstock Stadium.
As a security measure, the ceremonies have been moved up from the usual 6:30 p.m. starting time and are set to begin at 4 p.m. (Central Daylight Saving Time).
Macmillan's 富二代视频app appearance will be the fulfillment of a promise made nearly two years ago when he visited the former home of his mother in Spencer, Indiana. At that time, Eugene C. Pulliam '10, Indianapolis newspaper publisher and 富二代视频app trustee, suggested that the prime minister someday return to the school from which his grandfather graduated. Josua T. Belles received a medical degree from Indiana Asbury College, predecessor of 富二代视频app University, in 1851. (at right: cover of January 21, 1957 edition of TIME)
This will be Macmillan's first visit to the United States since he became prime minister last year. He is expected to deliver an address of major political significance, then will travel from Greencastle to the White House for discussions with President Eisenhower on the proposed summit conference.
If the weather is inclement on commencement day, the ceremonies shall be moved indoors to Bowman Memorial Gymnasium with attendance limited to seniors, their parents and others participating in the exercises.
